Path to Proficiency
Language learners practice the four modalities (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) in order to communicate meaningfully, effectively, and creatively in the target language for real-life purposes (i.e., having a conversation with an Uber driver about the destination, renting a bicycle in a Spanish speaking country, etc.)
Proficiency-based instruction is student-centered and builds upon what students need, already know, and can do, and it respects diverse learning styles, while encouraging the development of a wide range of skills and learning strategies.
Our Spanish class is in the Survivor/Creator category. This category is also referred to as the TOURIST category (Intermediate Low to Intermediate High). Every student can be at a different level and will progress throughout the year to a new level.
HOMEWORK:
1. You will have homework after each class meeting.
2. Homework will be posted in our google classroom page.
Assessments:
1. We will have at least one assessment (quiz or test) per week.
2. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to email me about your missed work or make up quiz or test.
Spanish Grade: Base on a point system

Quizzes 30-40 pts
Tests 50-100 pts
Projects/presentations 30-100 pts
Academic Practices (Effort/Participation and homework)
Aspen will be updated once a week. If you fall behind in assignments, I will notify you to develop a catch up plan.
MAKE-UPS (quizzes and tests)
Make-ups must be taken within 5 days of the date of the quiz/test.
Classroom Rules
a) No talking when I am talking. If you have a question, raise your hand.
b) No talking when a fellow student is giving an answer or asking a question
c) No put downs or name calling of any kind will be tolerated. You will respect each other
d) Do not ask to go to the bathroom in the middle of an explanation, unless a real emergency. Wait for teacher to finish talking before asking to go.
e) The World Languages Wing is a cellphone free zone. Students are expected to restrain from using cellphones in our classrooms.
Marblehead High School Class Policies
Attendance:
Students are expected to be on time for every class. If they are tardy, they will serve a teacher detention that day. Students who arrive
to class halfway through the class will be considered absent for attendance purposes.
If a student accumulates more than four (4) absences (excused and/or unexcused) per term in any course, they will receive a grade of
“N” on their report card, indicating No Credit due to poor attendance. If a student receives an “N” for one term, they can still receive
a passing grade for the semester or year if they maintain a passing grade average and are not absent more than four (4) (excused
and/or unexcused) times in the other terms.
Students who are absent with excuse are responsible for making arrangements to make up their work on the day they return to school
whether the class meets that day or not. A student who is absent from school without excuse, or a student who is absent from a class
without excuse, will receive no credit for work in each class missed.
New Cell phone policy:
Students will place their cell phones in a box as they enter the classroom. Student may get the phone if the teacher gives permission to use it for educational purposes.
In addition, Students are prohibited from making recordings or taking pictures without permission. Unauthorized use of an electronic device during assessments is prohibited and may result in an Academic Integrity investigation. Failure to turn over an electronic device to a staff member may result in additional disciplinary action
